We Interrupt This Blog For A Special Message

February 21, 2013

This is not a Breaking Baptist sequel…that is coming on Monday.

This is an I-am-overwhelmed-and-in-awe-of-the-response-to-the-blog-yesterday post!

So many of you wrote to me publicly and privately expressing either feeling the same kind of complacency, or a recent story of being spiritually brought back to life by stepping out of traditional ties, and re-evaluating what church really is.

My heart is heavy though when I read the words of sweet friends who crave more. Their stories twisted my heart because that’s where I used to be, and some mornings I still am. You know you want more, you know God expects more, and if you just had a manual, map, or divine to-do list, you would get after it, right?

How do you resurrect dry and dusty bones? How do you know what God wants you to do next? What’s the answer when religion seems to have replaced spirituality in your life? Is all tradition wrong? Can’t the new and old coexist? If church doesn’t happen in a pretty brick building, then where does it happen? Why is the church losing ground today? If we part with tradition, aren’t we watering it all down? Aren’t we giving up if we change what we’ve been doing? Can Baptists really not dance? I had to stick that one in there…I may be getting deep and spiritual, but I am still snarky at heart.

These are the questions I’m going to tackle because they are the same ones I had to ask myself. But for now…for this very moment, let’s all just exhale the worry, anxiety, and fear. Take a deep breath and inhale one simple life changing truth…our God’s not dead, and if we search after Him, His word, His roar, will bring us to Him.

“They shall go after the LORD; he will roar like a lion; when he roars, his children shall come trembling from the west.” Hosea 11:10
