Never Say Never

May 28, 2013

What do you get when you start meeting with like-minded people, begin praying with them, eating with them, reading the Bible with them, and serving others along side them?

Well . . . we did all of that, and we ended up with a church.

I am a strong believer in the thought that saying aloud the things you think you’ll never do will surely bring them to fruition. I can name at least ten different things I said I would never do, and can now show you pictures of me happily doing those exact things. Which is a clear indicator that A. God has a sense of humor, and B. God knows best.

Starting a church has never been on my to-do list. (Not that I’ve ever kept such a list . . . who wants to be reminded daily of the mundane tasks in life?) Being a pastor’s wife has never occurred to me either. Actually, I probably have never felt worthy of being such. (Most pastoral wives I know are very organized and keep a very detailed to-do list) But here I find myself today, in the middle of an extraordinary group of people, launching a LifeChurch Network church in the fall, so as of now I am the wife of The Edge Church campus pastor. Am I disappointed or dreading the change? Absolutely not. The funny thing is I can’t imagine doing anything else. This project fuels my soul, brings me closer to God, and has introduced me to a whole gaggle of amazing new people. Life is changing in the most incredible and fabulous way, and I can’t wait to see where God is going with this, even if it means I have to start keeping a calendar.

That’s one of the amazing things about life with God. Just when you think life is what it is, and your resolved to set sail into American middle-class oblivion, He takes your hand and leads you into an exciting new adventure.

Breaking Baptist isn’t about bashing baptists or downing anyone or any church in my spiritual history. It’s about the heartbreak, difficulty, and apprehension of leaving any chapter of your life behind. It’s about looking forward to the future and learning from your past.

For me it’s about walking to the edge of a well-loved and trusted shore, feeling the cool water lap against my feet, looking out with wonder to where the ocean meets the sky, and hearing a whisper in the waves. “Come out to the deep, Aimee. I want to show you something. Follow Me.”oceans

I hope you can look past the attention grabbing title of this blog, and simply enjoy witnessing the journey. It’s going to be worth watching because God is planning the trip. If by chance you’re standing on the sands, gazing out upon the great unknown, longing to step out . . . go for it. Get your feet wet. You won’t regret it.

Check out The Edge Church Facebook page and message me if you are interested in being part of the launch team.

Most of my posts are inspired by the music I listen to while I walk/try to run. This post is brought to you by Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) ~ Hillsong United. Enjoy!
