Life Over the Edge

This will be our story of The Edge Church (2013-2023). Those of you who have been with me the longest, lived this story alongside me. I’ve attempeted to write this history many times. It never came easy. We were always either right in the thick of the ongoing plot or in the middle of a lengthy comma, unsure of what came next. Now that we’ve put a period in that part of our lives, it feels more natural to look back and chronicle the events. I’m not going to lie, the ending is sad, really sad. But, somehow it all makes sense now. So let me take you back to the beginning. I’m going to attempt to include the good, the bad, and the ugly– a not so easy task when these are real people and real events we are dealing with. I often wonder how the authors of Biblical books and letters felt when they had to shed light on events that would go down in history as spiritual bloopers and blunders, either of their own or that of a friend or loved one, but I’m thankful they didn’t shy away from sharing. It’s how we learn. So I will do my best to share as well. I’ve decided when I disclose a name, it will be to bring them honor. When I don’t, it will be to protect them as best I can. You may ask why I would highlight any dim moments in history when writing of a church plant experience? Why not just focus on the upside? Well, every good story takes twists and turns. The only way to really see the good, in all it’s light and glory, is to find it as a glimmer of hope in a deep dark cave, a beacon of safety in the middle of a murky and stormy sea, or a warm glow of enlightment at the end of a long black tunnel. The hard times are sweeter to me now because of God’s gentle hand holding mine through those bleak and hurtful sojourns. As I’ve told God many times over the past 10 years, “I’m here for it all.” I hope you will be too. This story is one of the good ones.

This was the front of our very first invite card. I invite you again to join me in the archives of our Edge lives. This was our personal Jones family opus, the best work of our lives. But just as proud of it as we all are, we’re also equally humbled that God would allow us to labor for Him in such a way.
